Young Eagles Rally

July 12 2003

Despite a good forecast for the day, mother nature took her time making it so as the morning dawned with heavy fog. As our 9 a.m. starting time was reached the field was still covered in murk but the first hints of improvement were showing. By about 10:30 the fog had broken and we were greeted with blue sky and scattered puffy white clouds and even these continued to disipate.

While waiting for the weather to cooperate, early arrivals were given tours of the airport and introduced to some of the planes we would be flying.

The late start made everyone eager to get flying so once things cleared the four pilots got busy taking up their eager passengers. By the time the day was ended 34 new Young Eagles had gotten an introduction to general aviation.

Thanks to Hector Constantzos for organizing the event. Thanks to pilots Leo Hickey, Bill Greenberg, Mike Doyle and Nels Anderson. Mary and Ann did a great job making sure everything was organized at the registration table. Ken Roy, as usual, was busy taking pictures. This time, though, he took pictures of planes taking off and landing as well as kids having fun around the airport. And Charlie Smith was there to give tours of the airport and entertain the kids and parents with his vast knowledge of trivia. As always, we owe a special debt of gratitude to Don and Nancy McPherson for their support with these events.
